Charities Charity work undertaken in Karnak Luxor and hughada
The charity is named (Prior Port Charity) which is a cross between the 2 churches in Colchester at Port lane and Priory street it was changed to this in April 2005 when Pauline the sister of the Port lane president passed into spirit whilst in Hughada Egypt and was laid to rest in Egypt. Previous to this the churches raised monies to help the poor of Luxor and Hughada but due to the passing of Pauline to spirit it was decided to give a name to the work that both churches do; so Priory Port Charity was born. The 2 presidents of the churches Mrs. I Foley (Port lane) & Mr. R Sadler (Priory street) work together to raise fund to help the people of the village of Nagel el Tewal el Karnak where there has been a clinic built. we also help a family with 2 cerebral palsy children. The charity has also helped to rebuild a house that had collapsed in the same village also and an orphanage in the city of Luxor plus a family in the town of Hughada on the Red sea coast.
There is also an orphaned family in the village of Abu Zena el Luxor this village is called "The village time forgot" because the poverty defies description places like this should not be aloud to exist on god's earth but unfortunately they do. The church at Priory street (Fennings Chase) mostly collects for the village at Karnak and many kilos of medicines & bandages have been taken out to stock the clinic also monies raised are handed to an English lady (Adele) who lives in the village married to an Egyptian (Bahaa). Adele oversee all the finance of the charity she speaks fluent Arabic also Bahaa speaks English and German. When we go into the village we need a guard not that it is unsafe in the country; we are very safe, but the Egyptian authorities do not like tourist straying outside the designated areas, but they are quite well aware of what we are doing and therefore give us safe passage. Last year 2005 we arrived in Luxor in early August, on our arrival day there had been a serious accident in the city of Qena approx 40 miles down river and an Italian hospital made an appeal for bandages for the victims as we had taken out so much we were able to send a large box their gratitude was extended to all who had donated.
